Pond Skimmer Filters- How to Install Pond Skimmer in Your Pond?

The purpose of a pond skimmer is to remove leaves, twigs, and other debris that would normally accumulate on the surface of the pond, or inside your mechanical filter in the middle of you gardens Calgary pond. A pond skimmer not only provides a filter basket and a secondary mechnical filtration mat, but pond skimmers also provide housing for your pump. Since a pond skimmer is conveniently located beside your pond, you will never have to wade into the middle of your pond to adjust your pump or clean your filter.

 

Pond Skimmer Installation- How to Install Algreen’s Pond Skimmer.

 

1. Dig a hole adjacent to the pond and slightly larger than the pond skimmer box. Make sure the bottom of the skimmer hole is compacted and level. Place the skimmer into the hole and backfill. Leveling of skimmer box is important both from side to side and front to back. After you’re finished, the normal water level should not be more or less then ¾” to 1 ½” below the top of the weir opening.

 

2.Connect the pond skimmer to the pond liner. Hold the liner up against the skimmer opening allowing approximately 1″ extension above the top of the skimmer box. It is a good idea to allow a small slack liner beneath the weir opening.

 

3. Weir can now be reassembled with the pond liner and skimmer box making sure that it lies between skimmer box and weir assembly. Locate the top two corner mounting holes. Use nail or awl to cautiously punch holes in the liner and pre-drilled plate exactly where mounting screws are positioned. Check the alignment after inserting blackened screws. The pond liner should fit comfortably.

 

4. Start by this dissembling and applying a silicon sealant that is fish safe around the weir opening and follow by screwing holes to reassemble. It is important to first insert the screws and then tighten them properly in following arrange: 1. Top two corners, 2. Bottom two corners, 3. Remaining holes.

 

5.Take the two barb-head fittings that are provided and tightly screw them into the bulkhead fitting in the back of the pond skimmer filter. To connect a waterfall pump (purchase separately) you place the pump in the back of the skimmer behind the basket and filter mat.
To connect a barb-head fitting, only use non-kink tubing and secure it with a clamp.
